The small green hill still called "Cowhill" or Poggio Vaccaio in Italian by the local peasants is situated at less than two miles from the Porto, which is part of the municipality of Castiglione del Lago in the province of Perugia. Porto is at 6 miles from the Autosole exit (Chiusi - Chianciano Terme) as well as from the railroad station in Chiusi. Porto counts almost 300 inhabitants and has a Food store, a large Bar, a Hairdresser for ladies, a small bank with its bancomat facility, a big shop for furniture and a small Post Office.

The landscape is our strength. On the top of the so-called Cowhill stands the Agriturism complex bearing the same name of the hill. It extends on a surface of 12 Hectares (almost 40 acres) of farming land with a small lake for fishing and a small wood, the whole facing the WWF lake of Montepulciano which is a natural reserve for bird-watching.

The main building is the landford villa which was completely restored, refashioned and refurbished in 1996. The ground-floor is reserved to the owners who live there the whole year round. At the first-floor are two large apartments for tourist; each one is composed of two double beadrooms a small living room with fireplace, a bathroom, a kitcen and a large terrace-portico facing the lake and the wonderful rolling hills of Tuscany and Umbria. The pool is 6 meters by 12 and is perfectly integrated into the landscape in one of the most scenic farm, and is always available to all guests staying with us.

Where can you go starting from Agriturismo Poggiovaccaio?
Pienza (a renaissance town still unchanged), Montepulciano, Montalcino (famous wine), Cortona, Castiglione del Lago, Citta' della Pieve and Chiusi are at less than one hour driving from Poggiovaccaio. The famous Chianciano Terme, is one of the oldest spa in central Italy. This may easily reached in 15 minutes driving. Furthermore, the national Highway called "Autosole", is very near to Poggiovaccaio and it may be used to easly reach Florence and Perugia in less one hour, (from where you may easily reach the town of Assisi, the birth-place of St. Francis). As you know, Poggiovaccaio is located in a famous historical and artistic centre, where you may visit places such as St. Galgano, which is the ancient church still containing the sword in the stone, (Escalibur).
In short, you are spoiled for choice!
